In this basic course on Meditation we will be discussing the importance of proper posture, common obstacles to beginning a meditation practice, how to meditate at home, and some useful tools you will need to do so.

We will also be discussing the purpose and benefits of meditation and how to know when you are practicing properly and making progress. We will spend time each class doing a short meditation, then checking in about our practice and bringing up any questions that we may have.

Kunga's thoughts on Meditation

Meditation has been a valuable tool in my life. It has helped me to deal with stress, has given me faith in myself and in humanity, and has completely transformed my experience of my mind and opened my heart. I knew early on in my meditation practice that it would be a big part of my life, and it continues to be a priority that yields many increasing benefits that still continue to surprise and inspire me.

BodyMind Meditation

This 8-week course is designed to gently ease you out of the busy, "stressed out" thinking mind into a place of wholeness that welcomes the felt sense of the physical body. We begin by focusing on the breath, bringing awareness into the present moment. We work with the practice of bringing mindfulness into everyday life - washing the dishes, sitting at the computer, or eating a meal. We begin to develop sensory clarity by focusing on body sensations, sight, sound, and the thinking mind, and talk about working with difficult emotions such as anxiety, anger or hurt. Finally, we touch upon forgiveness of others and ourselves. Each class includes a short talk, sitting practice and question time.
