Kymberley Feltham

With the intent to gain a deeper understanding of yoga and expand her personal practice, in 2005 Kymberley completed a 200 hour teacher training in the Kripalu tradition with Atlas Yoga Studios. Through this program she gained a love for both the practice and philosophy of yoga, and the desire to continue learning. While teaching throughout Kitchener and Waterloo; Kymberley has brought the experience of yoga to adults, children, and multi-generational groups. In 2009 Kymberley decided to augment her teaching by undertaking a second 200 hour training at Queen Street Yoga under the direction of Hart Lazer. This training expanded her knowledge and deepened her understanding of yoga and why it is important to her. She believes that what we experience in the studio on the yoga mat is an anatomical and physical practice that has the potential to teach us about ourselves and how we relate to the world around. The more we understand our own bodies and recognize our felt experiences the better equipped we are. Kymberley holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Contemporary Dance and has undertaken 400+ hours of yoga teacher training.

In her own words: “I am inspired by the body, and the knowledge and insight that the body provides. I grew up taking dance classes, when I left home to begin university I put dance on the back-burner, within two years I had changed programs and cities in order to study dance intensively and full time. What came next was an immersion into the creative process and an understanding of how the mind and body influence each other - not just in the dance arts but also day-to-day life. These explorations were taxing, and I sought-out yoga to ground my body and sooth my mind... in the years since I have experienced the practice of yoga to do much more then that.

My yoga practice inspires my dance practice, and I am happy to share both at QSY. Where my yoga instruction focuses on anatomical alignment and the establishment of a strong physical foundation, in dance there is the opportunity to play with movement and self-expression. I feel fortunate to be able to continually explore and experience what yoga has to offer, and have the opportunity to share these experiences through my teaching.”

“We are never separated from our bodies and from the forces and energies acting upon us that give rise to understanding.” -- Patrice Pavis

Kymberley is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in cultural anthropology, she is interested in how politics intercede in artistic development within the contemporary dance community of post-apartheid South Africa.

Kymberley's love for yoga has lead her to expand her practice to involve yoga instruction to adults and children alike. After completing a 200 hour yoga teaching certification Kymberley has had the privilege of offering yoga to a wide range of students in local studios and gyms throughout Waterloo and Kitchener. Holding a Bachelor of Fine Arts in contemporary dance from Concordia University, and a Master of Arts from Wilfrid Laurier in communication studies, it has been beneficial to augment her education with a teaching certification in Kripalu yoga, a style known for inner-reflection and physical discipline. This training has allowed her to be immersed in an understanding of how the mind and body influence each other through the creative process, influencing her choreography & teaching style in both dance & yoga. Kymberley is excited to continue her study of yoga through a second 200 hour course, facilitated by Meaghan Johnson and Kristin Honey, under the tutelage of Hart Lazer.
