Group therapy is a form of psychotherapy that involves a therapist working with several people at the same time. Group therapy helps people work through problems by interacting with a therapist and a group of individuals with similar struggles. In a safe, confidential setting, each group member can share personal experiences, feelings, and issues and receive feedback and support from the rest of the group.

We may all be experiencing some form of helplessness and fear, such as denial and shock, during this very unique and very unusual time in the world. When traumatic events happen (such as COVID-19), it may bring up other symptoms and patterns of behaviour associated with past traumas. This group is appropriate for those who have experienced grief and loss, trauma, addiction, symptoms of isolation, feelings of shame, loneliness, or anyone that feels they would benefit from group therapy while attending Virtual Yoga for Trauma Recovery.

Maximum 12 participants in group therapy. Prices above include the Virtual Course and 4 sessions of Virtual Group Therapy. You can request a Psychotherapy receipt for the entire price (course + group therapy) for insurance purposes.

Course description:

This virtual course is for anyone who is on a path to recovering from physical or emotional trauma. The class aims to give participants tools to understand how trauma affects the body and to let go of trauma stored in the body through movement. Trauma may seem like a loaded word, but it is something that affects many of us through major losses, accidents, violence, or other major life stresses.

The practice will consist of gentle movements, simple postures, and breath awareness. These elements of traditional hatha yoga are modified to build a trauma survivor’s sense of empowerment and cultivate a more positive relationship to one's body. Everything in this virtual course is optional and beginner-friendly.

This course is based on the evidence-based methodology of Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga.

The aim of our Virtual Courses is to empower you to learn new methods of self-care during this unusual time and provide opportunities for community connection. We have designed these courses to prioritize both interaction and building new habits. The online format includes both interactive live-stream classes (where you can ask questions and hear from fellow students), as well as a variety of practice videos to do at your own pace and incorporate into your life. The best part? You will have access to all the practice videos (including recordings of the live-stream classes) for one year after your course ends, so you can continue to practice at home.

A computer, tablet, or smartphone and internet connection is required to participate, and a smartphone or webcam and microphone are recommended in order to interact with the teacher during live-streams. The online platform is very user-friendly, and we will provide you with instructions for getting started.

Virtual 7-Week Course Overview:

Week 1: Live-streamed 75-minute class. Begins with a short chat with the teacher, includes a 50- to 60-minute guided class, and ends with 10 to 15 minutes of time for questions, feedback, and human connection with your instructor and classmates. The instruction portion of live-streams will be recorded and available afterwards, if you are unable to make the class time.

Weeks 2 & 3: We will release two to three high-quality, pre-recorded videos. You can practice these once or several times during these two weeks.

Week 4: Live-streamed 75-minute class. Includes 45-minute guided practice building on some of the previous weeks' videos, followed by 30 minutes of time for guided interaction. You can turn on your camera, share your experience of the practice, and hold space for one another.

Weeks 5 & 6: We will release two to three high-quality, pre-recorded videos. You can practice these once or several times during these two weeks.
