Exclusivity: This course, led by a Black yoga teacher and psychotherapist, is an exclusive space for those who identify as Black, Indigenous, or as a Person of Colour. Wellness and yoga spaces are often predominantly white and can feel unwelcoming and even unsafe for BIPOC individuals. This course aims to provide a safer space to engage in personal healing, self-care, and community connection. In an effort to provide financial accessibility, this course will include sliding scale pricing.

This course is for BIPOC individuals who are on a path to recovering from physical or emotional trauma. The class aims to give participants tools to understand how trauma affects the body and to let go of trauma stored in the body through movement. Trauma may seem like a loaded word, but it is something that affects many of us through major losses, accidents, violence, or other major life stresses.

The practice will consist of gentle movements, simple postures, and breath awareness. These elements of traditional hatha yoga are modified to build a trauma survivor’s sense of empowerment and cultivate a more positive relationship to one's body. Everything in this course is optional and beginner-friendly.

We are offering sliding-scale pricing for Yoga for Trauma Recovery. We see this as a tiny step toward financial reparation, accountability, and accessibility. Nicole will be fully paid, with her pay subsidized by our fundraising efforts. Queen Street Yoga will be donating the space and time, and any funds raised beyond the costs of paying Nicole for the fall course will go toward future BIPOC yoga programming.

This course is based on the evidence-based methodology of Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga. While taught by a Registered Psychotherapist, the course itself is not Group Therapy. As an adjunctive therapy, the course is not intended as a replacement for working with a qualified therapist. However, during this time of increased trauma and stress due to COVID-19, we are adding a Virtual Group Therapy option for those who wish to have that added support. Look for the Virtual BIPOC-Only Group Therapy Add-On.

Beginners welcome!
