Legacy - The Sacred Journey to Elderhood

The Legacy Program is a 6-month journey for women 50+ (and women-identified folks) which includes monthly retreats and weekly gatherings. Legacy weaves together powerful and transformative practices including yoga, meditation, reflection, and discussion to help you sift through your changing priorities and discover new ways forward. This program offers a safe and nurturing environment to explore the joys and challenges from aging into Elderhood. This year's Legacy program begins October 10, 2019.

This program includes:

All retreats are scheduled from 1pm to 4pm on the Sundays listed above.

Using the ancient energetic map of consciousness -- the chakra system -- each retreat will include a guided program with creative consciousness (trance), yoga, meditation, and group exercises. There will also be some time for personal space and journaling. 

RiverSound Retreat Centre is located near Fergus, Ontario. 

A weekly integration group held on Thursday mornings from 9:30-11:30am will give you support for your body, mind, and spirit within a community of wise women just like yourself. This group will meet from October 10, 2019, to March 26, 2020 (excluding Nov 14, Dec 26, and Jan 2).

To embark on this sacred journey will take courage to confront both your fears and your dreams. It will shift you towards deeper meaning and a new experience of freedom.

Physical Practice

We believe the best physical practice for aging is through mindful yoga and breath practices.It is a complete package for maintaining health through this life change.The weekly group will include a yoga practice with dynamic movements specifically for maintaining strength and flexibility (these groups will also include meditation and group discussion). We will also spend time during each Sunday retreat to focus and learn an energy-based yoga derived from Anodea Judith’s Chakra Yoga.This internal approach to the practice will bring new vitality to your body/mind.

  • Learn to revitalize and move energy through your body with Yoga based in the energy system
  • Learn and practice essential movement and strengthening to maintain and advance mobility
  • Travel through the Chakra system and gain an understanding how this ancient teaching can guide you to experience your subtle energy

Meditation & Mindfulness

The program begins with foundational meditation skills and continues to cultivate mindfulness throughout.Additionall, meditation sessions will introduce more advanced techniques such as the Tibetan Compassion and Elemental Trainings.These practices help to gently open the heart and release habituated blocks and patterns within the Mind.

  • Enhance your mindfulness skills
  • Learn how to influence and cultivate compassion towards yourself and others
  • Let go of emotions that no longer serve you by breaking reaction chains

Attitudes & Beliefs

Group discussion and exploration will help you examine such topics as cultural attitudes and beliefs about aging, your shifting roles and perspectives, redefining beauty and sexuality, realistic life goals vs the bucket list, and Carl Jung's task list for Oldsters.

  • Examine and restructure cultural attitudes and beliefs about getting older
  • Redefine your life goals, roles, and relationships (including with yourself)
  • Expand your sense of Self through trance, storytelling, and guided meditations

Awareness of Death

The program will include the conversation about the reality of your mortality.The awareness of death is essential because it will push you to become serious about how to spend time more meaningfully.One retreat will be based on the sacred Death Lodge, an ancient Indigenous custom. This process asks you to forgive the past, express gratitude for those who have helped you, and bring forth your gifts.

  • Re-prioritize work and time so you spend more time more meaningfully

By the end of the 6-month journey you will be ready to claim your personal Legacy.

What will you contribute to the future? 

Amanda Ingall fell in love with the mind/body connection over 30 years ago and has been building and honing her skills in that area ever since. Her love of the physical lead her to private practice as an RMT specializing in Craniosacral, Energy Balancing, and Medical Intuitive treatments. Her love of the mind has been rooted in a mindfulness meditation practice with deep personal practice and gentle instruction for others. She holds a 200-hour Yoga Instructor Certificate from Queen Street Yoga and is a Certified Holotropic Breathwork Practitioner (which studies and facilitates non-ordinary states of consciousness). She recently became a graduate of Anodea Judith’s Sacred Center Teacher's Certification program.

When Amanda became a Grandmother it rocked her world in the best way, and she uncovered a new direction for her life’s work. She began to envision a group of women coming together for a great initiation: the transition into conscious Elderhood. That vision became Legacy, a program which brings together yoga, meditation, group process, and trance into an empowering and transformational program for women 50+.
